Honey is such a beautiful, deeply healing gift from our beloved bees.
The honey-making process in itself is amazing. To bring us honey, bees have to swallow, digest, and regurgitate nectar from flowers. The finished product comes with many health benefits:
- It has powerful antibacterial, antifungal, and antibiotic properties.
- It's high in antioxidants.
- It's loaded with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
- It can provide an energy boost prior to workouts.
- It can be used as a relaxant and to improve sleep.
- It's used topically to treat wounds and to deeply hydrate the skin. (Manuka honey masks are the best!)
- It possesses carcinogen-preventing and anti-tumor properties.
- It's especially helpful for sore throats due to its antimicrobial properties for killing off infection.
I have added honey infusions to my immune-enhancing regimen during my recovery from Lyme disease. I'm using honey to elevate my daily teas, upgrade my smoothies and raw desserts, and mix with some extra vitamin C for a power shot if any cold or flu decides to visit. Combining honey with immune-boosters gives these nourishing remedies an added punch.
In the first infusion, I’ve combined honey with turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties and ginger, which aids in digestion. In the second, I’ve included antioxidant-rich raw garlic, which is one of nature’s most effective antibiotics. And for the third infusion, I’ve used Gynostemma tea, which is an adaptogen that provides the body with both uplifting and calming benefits as needed. The rose petals help alleviate depression and fatigue.
These are three of my favorite infused honey recipes, but the possibilities really are endless. Feel free to play around with the ingredients and measurements to create your own heavy-duty honey arsenal.
