I've dabbled with different multivitamins over the years (even though I eat a generally balanced diet). But I'm super picky about the ones I choose to take because many aren't worth the effort or money.

Why? Well, many only include a handful of vitamins and minerals (say around seven or 10), don't provide them in an easily absorbable form, and don't contain sufficient levels of those nutrients to make a difference in your health.

It's not surprising that some studies looking at general multivitamin use may find that multivitamins don't impact longevity1

However, most people would benefit from taking a high-quality multi every day. And I'm confident that the one I've been taking for almost a year now is the perfect formula to support my health now and decades down the road.*

What makes a multi good for longevity?

mindbodygreen's ultimate multivitamin+ is not like any other multi out there. Just two capsules provide a total of 33 ingredients in clinically backed doses.

Even in the first few weeks, I started to wake up with more energy (and even maintain that momentum throughout the day). And now, that feeling has increasingly become my norm.

But the main reason this multi has found a permanent place in my routine is because of all the good it does at the cellular level.

Here are four ways this supplement is primed to support your overall health—whether you're heading into your 30s (like me) or looking to reach your best health in your 40s, 50s, or 60s:

1.

Supports optimal micronutrient intake

Many people are still falling short of their basic nutrient needs. About 932 to 100%3 of the U.S. population is failing to consume even just half the recommended amount of vitamin D daily (400 IU). Not to mention, 67% are falling short on vitamin K4, 52% aren't getting enough magnesium, and 43% are behind on their vitamin A intake.

And not having optimal micronutrient levels can have far-reaching effects on your health. For example, low vitamin D status is linked to poor sleep5, more difficulties regulating mood6, and even altered blood sugar7. I appreciate that ultimate multivitamin+ includes 1,000 IU of vitamin D per serving, which helps me maintain healthy blood levels of the nutrient.*

2.

Enhances cognitive longevity

Possibly one of the most exciting benefits of multivitamin use is that studies are continuing to show how beneficial they are for brain health8

Researchers of a meta-analysis published this year that pooled together data from over 5,000 individuals found that taking a multivitamin daily significantly helped global cognition and episodic memory9. Researchers estimated that it helped slow global cognitive aging by two years compared to the placebo.*

While I still have a ways to go before I'm 60, several age-related changes in the brain start to appear in your 30s and ramp up in your 40s, and I'm taking a very proactive approach to counter that.

3.

Is the first multi to include Setria® glutathione

Glutathione has long been a go-to choice for longevity enthusiasts for its seemingly anti-aging benefits.*

Glutathione has powerful antioxidant effects in the body to protect cells from harmful free radicals (and oxidative stress). Free radicals and oxidative stress build with age, just as the body's natural production of glutathione decreases10—possibly making you more susceptible to other health concerns11

Most multivitamins don't include any glutathione, let alone one that has numerous studies backing it up. Setria® glutathione has been clinically shown to increase glutathione in the body. With ultimate multivitamin+, I like knowing that I'm getting a consistent (and effective) supply of this vital antioxidant.

4.

Provides plant-based antioxidants in amounts hard to reach through food alone

Glutathione isn't the only bonus antioxidant ultimate multivitamin+ provides. It also includes resveratrol, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene

All of these can naturally be found in foods, but drinking red wine is not the ideal way to get resveratrol, nor do I reach for enough (if any) tomatoes daily to get a therapeutic dose of lycopene.

The fact that ultimate multivitamin+ makes getting these ever-important antioxidants a breeze is such a relief. And even if you eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, getting an additional source of these antioxidants is still beneficial.

The takeaway

A high-quality multivitamin can do wonders for your health and lifelong well-being. ultimate multivitamin+ quickly turned into a daily habit that I never skip (thanks to my quarterly subscription, I never have to). Learn more about ultimate multivitamin+ here

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications, consult with your doctor before starting a supplement routine. It is always optimal to consult with a health care provider when considering what supplements are right for you.
