How A Minimalist Wardrobe Made Me Happier & More Productive
If your daily routine doesn't make you happy, you're not doing anything wrong—it just may be time to consider making some changes. What is it that you most love to do? What makes your heart beat a little faster? Making your heart happy is a way to show yourself some love, and over time it will lead to realizations and growth.
I'm so excited to be partnering with Kit and Ace to bring you a glimpse into my daily routine. Kit and Ace is basically what I would call The Balanced Blonde lifestyle in clothing form. It’s technical apparel created for real life moments—from a bike ride to a business meeting, from the airport to a night out with friends, from the grocery store (my favorite place on Earth, let’s be real) to a snuggle sesh on my yoga mat with Huddy the kitten.
Kit and Ace clothing is all about fit, form, and function. I feel put together when I’m wearing their clothes, but I also feel cozy and totally myself. Not having to change from loungewear to street wear saves me so much time. Whether you’re trying to make your passion a reality or you’re an entrepreneur representing your own brand, it’s important to have versatile outfits that make you feel like the best version yourself.
A Day in the Life: Jordan Younger of The Balanced Blonde
Jordan Younger
Jordan Younger is the blogger behind the #realness-based wellness and lifestyle blog The Balanced Blonde. She is also the creator of health-inspired conscious clothing line TBV Apparel, and author of the memoir Breaking Vegan. When she isn’t caught up in writer-blogger-land, you can find Jordan on the yoga mat, snuggling with her kitten, sipping on green smoothies in Venice, laughing way too hard at her own jokes, and training for marathons because she’s crazy. Oh, and she’s a Snapchat addict, so you can follow her life with username @jojoyounger if you like to stalk! (She sure does.)
Morning
7:00am: Wake up, snuggle my kitten Hudson bear, get up to make my morning cup of Bulletproof Coffee. I love early mornings because they make me feel extra productive, and I savor that quiet time before the hustle of the day begins. That being said, I am not one who wakes up ultra early unless I am trying to get to a super early workout class—I prioritize a full night’s sleep whenever possible.
7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.: Meditate, stretch, and do some light yoga before I check emails and get started on the workday. This early morning time on my mat is sacred to me. It allows my mind to flow freely without the distractions of social media or being so “on.” And my body always thanks me for it later!
8:30 a.m.: OrangeTheory Fitness HIIT class! My daily workout, because I concentrate much better and feel much better throughout the day if I get a good cardio sweat sesh in first thing.
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: I come home to make a post workout protein shake (always with some greens!), and sit down in my home office to write and send a blog post out! I usually write my posts the day before so that they are ready to go the next day without any stress. Then I send out my newsletter to all of my TBB subscribers!
Afternoon
1:30 p.m.: Lunch. I eat either at home or at a healthy restaurant in my neighborhood for a meeting or to catch up with my other wellness blogging ladies. Some favorites are The Butcher’s Daughter, Cafe Gratitude, Sweetfin, M Cafe, and Kreation.
3:00 p.m.: Several days a week I meet my photographer at the beach to take some photos for the blog. This serves both as a productive work activity and also a breath of fresh air (literally) for me, because the beach is my absolute happy place.
4:30 p.m.: Home to get some more writing done—between the blog, my e-books, my book, responding to emails and comments, and all that lovely stuff, the writing portion of my day is never done! I love it, because writing is the number one reason why I got into blogging in the first place. Passion for wellness was a close second. ;)
Evening
6:00 p.m.: Most nights I go for a walk in my neighborhood with one of my best friends, and then I either head home to make dinner or stroll to a nearby sushi restaurant to meet up with friends. I love this part of the day—the nice, casual, carefree unwinding from the workday. I like to surround myself with passionate and productive people who inspire me, so we always have great stories to share after a nice, long, day of doing what we love.
9:00 p.m.: Time to snuggle with Hudson and read in bed! I also love to sip on ginger tea (un-caffeinated, of course, at this hour!) and do some light stretching. I try to go for a “digital detox” at this time of day by putting my phone away and really getting into a book or journaling for the soul.
And, as I said, I cherish sleep so much these days, so my bedtime is usually pretty early so I can stick to my early morning routine.
There you have it, guys. Kit and Ace fuels that undercover athlete in me all day long, since I always like to be on the move. Productive but not over-busy—that’s what I always strive for. I only commit to things that really make my heart feel inspired, and because I love so many things… that does tend to be a lot.
Would love to hear about your day in the life, or your “dream day!” Do tell. :)
