I've blogged before about why everyone should drink green smoothies and given you some tips to ease into green drinks (because let's be honest, green smoothies can end up tasting like a blended salad).
Today I wanted to share a delicious and mild beginner green smoothie recipe that will get you started off in the right "green" direction. Having a green drink each day is one of the best things you can do for your body; finding recipes and flavor combinations that you love will help you develop and stick to your daily green drink ritual.
Elizabeth’s Beginner Green Smoothie Recipe
Use organic ingredients whenever possible.
- 2 large handfuls spinach leaves (2-3 cups)
- 3-4 large romaine lettuce leaves
- 1 pear, cored and quartered
- 1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1/2 peeled banana
- 1 tbsp flax or chia seeds (or both!)
- 1 cup purified water
- 5-6 ice cubes
- Optional: 4-8 drops liquid stevia for sweetness
Directions:
Wash all produce thoroughly and prepare it for the blender. Blend all ingredients until smooth; 30-60 seconds depending on your blender. Add more purified water if needed to blend. Best if served immediately, can be stored in an airtight glass container up to 12 hours; fill the container to the top to minimize air exposure.
Tip: The ingredient measurements in green smoothies are flexible, add more or less of any ingredients to your taste. Learn how to build the perfect green smoothie here.
