All of us know—at least in a vague sense—that drinking water is important. The adult body is, on average, made up of 60 to 70 percent water. Fueling up with H2O throughout the day is essential, but life gets in the way, and one study found that 43 percent of adults drink less than four cups per day sipping on coffee instead or forgoing liquids altogether.
Here’s the thing, though: Often all it takes to drink more water is finding a water bottle you love. Plus, there are a lot of reasons to drink water, and they’re not always as obvious as you might expect. Here are six reasons to drink more water that you haven’t heard of yet:
1. Drinking water can give you a productivity boost.
Hitting that 3 p.m. slump? One study found that because of water’s ability to increase gray matter in the brain, drinking enough water makes you 14 percent more productive.
