In the AstroTwins' latest book, Astrology Advantage, the twins have created a brand-new way of understanding your personality through astrology. In this excerpt, learn about the six astrological archetypes and hybrid archetypes—plus how to use them to your advantage. To get started, find your type using the AstroTwins' handy (and free) calculator here. Once you learn your type, read on to find out what it means.

By now, you've calculated your I*AM and have found your primary archetype, which is either Innovator, Authority, Maven, or one of the three hybrids: Innovator-Authority, Innovator-Maven, or Authority Maven. You'll learn how to flex your archetype to gain the Astrology Advantage in every area of life.

First, the basics. Let's get into what these archetypes mean!

1.

Innovator (I)

Innovators are the fire-starters and the "first responders" of the I*AM System. Their birth charts are mostly comprised of cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), the zodiac signs that start each season (spring, summer, fall, winter).

Not only do Innovators embrace the new, but they also embody it! Because they are tireless trailblazers, their visionary powers help them see possibilities where others see only roadblocks—if they see anything at all.

The downside of being so ahead of the curve? Well, Innovators can risk the pitfalls of wrong timing, or they could be typecast as eccentric rebels without a cause. Their bold ideas may not be embraced by the mainstream until years later, and in some cases, they may never even get credit for them.

But when they do set a trend that catches on, get ready for an adoring fan club! Their ultimate role is as thought leaders and trailblazers. People count on them to spark a winning idea or plan.

Then, Innovators leverage their impressive networks or fanbases to make their novel concepts part of the zeitgeist.

  • What motivates them: Being first, connecting dots, birthing movements
  • Superpowers: Style, self-assuredness, ability to make something out of nothing
  • Path to success: Having the "It Factor"
  • Pitfalls: Being elitist, exclusionary, too "out there" or far ahead of the curve
  • Keywords: Leader, pioneer, futurist, tastemaker, trendsetter, trailblazer, idea machine
  • Astrology advantage: Innovators are willing to take a risk when nobody else will
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)
2.

Authority (A)

Systematic and sensible, Authorities are often the voice of mindfulness and moderation, the diplomats who can stand the heat because they know how to play it cool. Their charts are primarily composed of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), the midseason zodiac signs that keep us consistent and stable.

For Authorities, the secret to success is simple: following instructions! Authorities are the "how-to" types who love a proven, step-by-step method for success. And once they master those moves, they might just create a winning system of their own.

While Authorities can be talented performers and artists (all those long hours of practice), many are content staying out of the spotlight—at least, when they're not on duty. When it comes to their life's work or a message they believe in, recognition matters to the Authority.

These hard workers toil through hours of study, research, labor, and certification programs. After paying these dues, they want the respect and acknowledgment they deserve!

  • What motivates them: Stability, recognition, mastery
  • Superpowers: Patience, persistence, determination, integrity
  • Path to success: Paying dues and earning their place at the top
  • Pitfalls: Being rigid, following instructions to the letter, timidness, need for praise, people pleasing
  • Keywords: Expert, public figure, project manager, do-er, award-winner, achiever
  • Astrology advantage: Authorities can cut through chaos and identify what really matters
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)
3.

Maven (M)

Curious, collaborative Mavens are the messengers of the world! Their birth charts are primarily composed of mutable signs (Gemini, VirgoSagittarius, Pisces), which fall at the end of each season. They are the editors, the ones who come in and add the finishing touch that makes the whole project sing.

Since Mavens are more flexible and comfortable with change than the other two archetypes, they can "chameleon" to fit into a variety of situations and social groups.

While they've got plenty of original material, the Maven's true superpower is taking someone's lofty or lesser-known concepts and making them utterly viral. Mavens are the publicists of the zodiac—the ones who complete the package with a winning touch and are gifted at making almost any topic sound irresistible.

Their role is to be the change agents, evangelists, conversation-starters, and spreaders of ideas. They need to find a path that allows them to express a wide range of their talents.

A social role that involves teams, interactivity, and communication, and harnesses their natural people skills is where Mavens shine.

  • What motivates them: Novelty (fun! shiny! new!), community, making connections
  • Superpowers: Cleverness, charisma, inclusivity, the gift of gab, witty wordplays
  • Path to success: Making everything go viral
  • Pitfalls: Coming across as a BS artist, all talk/no action
  • Keywords: Messenger, hype machine, cultural celebrity, trend spreader, cheerleader
  • Astrology advantage: Mavens are community and team builders who bring people together
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)

Meet the Hybrids: Innovator-Authority, Innovator-Maven, Authority-Maven

Because there are 13 data points in I*AM, some people's spread will be an even split between two of the archetypes (6, 6, and 1). If you're a hybrid, lucky you! You have twice as much of an astrology advantage as others, with easy access to the energies of not just three but six signs. That's half the zodiac!

Read the sections for both of your primary archetypes as you move through this book.

4.

Innovator-Authority (IA)

The Innovator-Authority has trailblazing ideas aplenty, thanks to their Innovator DNA. But the systematic Authority walks that talk and needs to translate any lofty concepts into a form that's ready for mass adoption.

The Innovator-Authority hybrid is able to see the future and live in the present, making this hybrid type quite the super-producer. (Imagine the gifted musician who also remixes their own album.) They fashion original concepts into tangible form, and they're not afraid to put in the hard work to do it.

The IA may be struck by "eureka" moments out of the blue and will need to disappear for a block of time to get the idea on paper. They may even emerge from the "laboratory" with a full-fledged product ready to launch.

  • What motivates them: Complex concepts, building something new, producing something epic
  • Superpowers: Stamina, strategic thinking, determination, persistence, vision, foresight
  • Path to success: Changing "business as usual"
  • Pitfalls: Workaholism, single-mindedness, elitism, ego
  • Keywords: Producer-director, wunderkind, fearless leader, visionary
  • Astrology advantage: Innovator-Authorities don't just dream up big ideas, they bring them to life
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) and fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)
5.

Innovator-Maven (IM)

Innovator-Mavens have lots of ideas and a million more for how to share them. But without the grounded, systematic Authority in their profiles, they can get scattered in their execution, and risk falling into the "jack-of-all-trades" category.

This type thrives in a role that lets them wear many hats, bouncing between wildly different tasks. Flexible hours and deadlines work best for Innovator-Mavens, as anything too rigid will cramp their childlike spirits.

They're happiest when allowed to be their creative, multi-passionate selves, guided by their curiosity and pioneering souls. This can be the archetype of the artist who succeeds after being "discovered" and managed by a savvy agent, or the genius coder whose idea goes viral with a venture capitalist's backing.

  • What motivates them: Disrupting the status quo, exploring and sharing new ideas, a creative challenge
  • Superpowers: Spontaneity, courage, ingenuity, insatiable curiosity, willingness to try new things
  • Path to success: Proving that the "impossible" is possible
  • Pitfalls: Impracticality, destructiveness, chaos, burning through resources, lack of discipline
  • Keywords: Magicians, entertainment directors, scientists, philosophers
  • Astrology advantage: Innovator-Mavens are versatile shape-shifters who have serious range!
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) and mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)
6.

Authority-Maven (AM)

The Authority-Maven is the original "edu-tainer," a natural teacher (Authority) who makes learning fun (Maven). Whether a credentialed or self-made expert, these super-producers won't hide out in any ivory tower or dish out dry, academic fodder for elite eyes only.

Authority Maven hybrids have a flair for bringing complex concepts to the every day person, empowering them with savvy shortcuts and hacks. This archetype can thrive by sharing "how I did it" stories, especially presented in a media-savvy and fun style (think the 30-second TikTok expert).

They can talk about the same topic 50 different ways, and somehow, it never sounds boring.

  • What motivates them: Studying new and old ideas, passing on wisdom, telling stories
  • Superpowers: Style, self-assuredness, resourcefulness, engaging presence
  • Path to success: Being the "savvy sage"
  • Pitfalls: Analysis paralysis, performance anxiety, getting lost in the weeds
  • Keywords: Expert, teacher, way-shower, impresario
  • Astrology advantage: Authority-Mavens excel at distilling complex data into a fun, teachable format
  • Cosmic profile: Charts are mostly fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) and mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)
