This super-easy-to-make morning tonic is going to be your new secret weapon against the barrage of sickness bugs we encounter this time of year (and come spring and summer, it'll knock your allergies out cold as well!). Whether you feel that terror-inducing tickle in the back of your throat, are in the full-blown throes of a virus, or simply want an extra kick of energy in the morning, this tonic has you covered.
It's antiviral, antibacterial, packed with antioxidants, and—oh, yeah—it tastes like the most deliciously creamy, spicy hot chocolate you've ever had.
So, what are the secret ingredients that make this innocent-looking beverage a power drink?
Reishi mushroom powder
One of the new darlings of the superfood world, this powdered mushroom is a mega-immune booster. Studies have demonstrated its benefits for longevity, cancer-fighting, liver regeneration, and more, and many of our favorite doctors drink it daily to keep their systems in top form.
Cacao powder
When people say chocolate is good for you, this is what they're talking about. Cacao is chocolate in its purest, least processed state and is rich in antioxidants that nourish your body from the inside out. Stress is one of the biggest immunity killers, and the ample amount of magnesium in cacao will help keep you calm and happy.
Manuka honey
While all honey varieties are antiviral and antibacterial (not to mention soothing to any irritated throat membranes), Manuka honey takes the benefits even further. Made from bees pollinating the New Zealand Manuka bush, Manuka honey has far more beneficial health properties than traditional honey, providing powerful natural immune support.
Look for a higher KFactor for a higher Manuka Pollen count, and make sure your honey is raw, non-GMO, and unpasteurized; we love Wedderspoon for their impeccable quality standards, which help you get the maximum health benefits. Plus, Wedderspoon honey adds a touch of delicious, caramelized sweetness (all-natural, of course) to this beverage.
Cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger
While they each have their own unique benefits, cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger work wonderfully in a trio, taming inflammation in your body (which is the key to a strong immune system).
